Welcoming Les Whale

Les Whale When our last issue went out we were looking for someone to promote our TelcoOptimiser service. We are glad to welcome Les Whale to the TeleConsultants’ Team

BY WAY OF INTRODUCTION
Les arrived in New Zealand in 1989, having taken the best part of a year to mountain bike from London. He settled in Auckland which also gave him easy access to the ocean and the countryside – an important factor for a city boy who loves the outdoors.

An enthusiastic boatie (ski boats or small cruisers, no problem), Les has ambitions to some day sail around the Pacific and on to the Mediterranean. He has a great love of the water and finds the New Zealand coastline perfect for swimming, water skiing, fishing, barefoot skiing and diving. If his leisure time is not being spent on or in the water, you might find him away snowboarding or out for the day on his Harley Davidson.

Closer to home there’s books, music and looking after his two dogs, a Standard Schnauser and a Bouvier, with his partner, Leah.

GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS
Professionally, Les’ roles have included Account Director, Business Development Manager, Sales Manager, Sales Director, Channel Manager and business owner. As business owner a highlight was making the finals and being runner up in the Vero Small Business awards in 2006.

Les enjoys the satisfaction of helping businesses develop, working with people and seeing people and companies succeed. He sees TelcoOptimiser as an ideal way to do just that.

Mobile - the devil will be in the detail

There has been a lot of activity in the mobile arena recently. Telecom and 2degrees are planning new network launches. Vodafone continues its network upgrade, and we have seen increased MVNO activity - Compass has already launched, and both CallPlus and Orcon are scheduled for later this year.

All these service providers will offer business plans, and there is bound to be a wide variance in offerings. 2degrees recently stated people will receive "great value at a fraction of the price most people pay today".

To make informed decisions you will need to consider a range of variables including hardware/SIM/number options, contract terms, pricing plans, voice and data services options, download speeds, network performance, coverage and customer service.

New Zealand is still waiting for a faster reduction in mobile termination rates than the previously agreed (very gradual) rate. It will be interesting to see what changes come out of the ongoing investigations by the Commerce Commission.
